Brighton defender Pascal Struijk is available for Sunday's Premier League derby against Crystal Palace after his red card was rescinded. An independent Regulatory Commission upheld Brighton's claim of wrongful dismissal, removing his one-match domestic suspension.
The club confirmed the decision in a statement. "Brighton can confirm that an independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Pascal Struijk and removed his one-match suspension," the statement said.
Struijk was sent off in the 57th minute of Brighton's win at Sunderland last weekend. Referee Tom Bramall showed the red card for impeding forward Wilson Isidor, a decision reviewed by VAR official Neil Davies. The commission ruled the Dutch centre-back did not deny an obvious goalscoring opportunity, as goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen would have reached the ball first.
The overturn is a boost for Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler ahead of a key fixture. His side, third in the table, host a Crystal Palace team sitting 12th with points from games. The Eagles travel to the Amex Stadium on the back of a win over Nottingham Forest but with a recent form of wins, one draw and losses.
Palace won the last meeting between the bitter rivals in February. Struijk's availability strengthens a Brighton defence that had kept consecutive clean sheets prior to the Sunderland match. The fixture takes place on Sunday.
