Terem Moffi Joins Hamburger SV as New No.9

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi has signed for German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV on a contract starting Monday. The 27-year-old will wear the club’s No.9 shirt and has completed his mandatory medical at the Athleticum at Volkspark.

Club Reaction

HSV sporting director Kathleen Krüger said Moffi’s experience and versatility will add another dimension to the club’s attack. “Terem fits perfectly with our orientation,” she added, noting his commitment will widen and vary the Sturmzentrum. Sports director Claus Costa highlighted Moffi’s physical qualities, stating he is “difficult to control due to his physique, determination and style of play.” He praised the striker’s presence in the penalty area and his ability to bring quality with his back to the goal.

Career Journey

Moffi was born in Calabar, Nigeria, in May 1999 and moved to England at 17, attending the Buckswood Football Academy. He began his professional career in Lithuania with FK Kauno Zalgiris, then FK Riteriai. In January 2020 he joined KV Kortrijk in Belgium, later that year moving to France with FC Lorient. His performances earned a move to OGC Nice in early 2023, and he spent the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese giants FC Porto. Across those clubs, Moffi recorded 88 goals and 13 assists in 228 competitive appearances.

International Experience

The striker has been a Nigerian international since 2021, earning 23 caps, scoring six goals and providing two assists. He made his international debut alongside new HSV teammate Jordan Torunarigha in October 2023.

Moffi said conversations with the coach and HSV’s history convinced him to join. He praised the club’s fans and orientation, noting that even after a few years in the 2. League, the club remains a big name worldwide. He emphasized that while scoring goals is his primary responsibility, he is also committed to contributing to the team’s collective effort.
