Crystal Palace has confirmed that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson's purchase of Eagle Football's shareholding in the Premier League club has been completed. Johnson told the club website, 'I am honored and privileged to be joining the ownership group of Crystal Palace Football Club.' The deal was announced last month, with reports placing the price between $220 million and $260 million. Johnson joins chairman Steve Parish, Josh Harris, and David Blitzer as a partner and director of the club. He has also signed the Premier League's Owners' Charter. Johnson's arrival at Palace comes with the club in dispute with UEFA over which European competition it will play in next season. Palace was demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League after falling foul of UEFA's rules governing multi-club ownership. The club has submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Johnson's purchase of John Textor's 43% stake in the club was completed despite UEFA determining that Textor had control or influence in Palace and French club Lyon as of March 1. Textor had agreed to sell his stake in Palace to Johnson, but the move came too late to satisfy UEFA. Palace finished 12th last season in the 20-team Premier League. The club's first major trophy in 120 years of existence was won in May, when they claimed the FA Cup. Johnson's experience as US Ambassador to the United Kingdom has given him an appreciation for the club's history and tradition. He will work with the existing ownership group to drive the club forward. The dispute with UEFA will be a key challenge for Johnson and the club in the coming months. Palace will be hoping to resolve the issue and compete in the Europa League next season.
